5.0 out of 5 starsThis is easily the best introduction to film theory I have read
By Mr A J Easton on 27 Jan. 2015
This is easily the best introduction to film theory I have read. It is concise and at the same time far reaching in scope, covering all the relevant theories as the science and art of film developed over time. I particularly liked the drawings by Angie Brew which ensures at all times that the book does not take itself too seriously and feels accessible to all comers. Heartily recommend it...

5.0 out of 5 starsHighly entertaining introduction
By Emily Threberton on 20 Sept. 2016
This book is a delight, anyone interested in film theory will enjoy the way that complicated ideas are laid out clearly and thematically, and related to the history of film making. Some people think that film theory is a bit unnecessary, but this book demonstrates how thinking about the nature of film, and its history and technology, enhances the way in which film as as a medium can be understood. Everybody likes film, and in fact, has a theory of what makes a good film. This book shows how you can think more deeply about film and still enjoy it without analysing it to death. Also shows how film and politics have inter-acted over the years, and sharply discusses the nature of Hollywood and its global dominance.
